Ulla-Maija Mäkilä Memorial Fund grant

You receive a one-off research grant, paid as a single sum. The money supports doctoral research in gynecology that focuses on young people. It comes from the Ulla-Maija Mäkilä Memorial Fund, one of 25 named donor funds run by the Oulun yliopiston tukisäätiö (University of Oulu Scholarship Foundation). The foundation was set up in 1960 to back research at the University of Oulu. The fund itself was created in 1986 and 1987 by members of the Finnish Gynecological Society in memory of Ulla-Maija Mäkilä, the society's secretary, who died young.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a young researcher working on your PhD thesis.
• Field: Your research focuses on gynaecology and relates to young people.
• University: You are a researcher at the University of Oulu.
• Nationality: You are a Finnish national.
• No parallel employment: During the term of the scholarship, you will not be in an employment relationship with the university.

How to apply

PhD scholarships are advertised once a year, usually in April, on the Foundation’s website. You complete the application via the Foundation’s online scholarship system and attach a reference from your supervisor. Your faculty reviews and assesses the applications, and the Foundation’s board makes the final decision.
