About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive up to 1,500 EUR per month to enable you to devote yourself full-time to your doctoral thesis. The Faculty of Arts at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) pays this grant in two forms. The start-up grant grant pays 1,500 EUR per month for 2 months at the start of your PhD, so that you can begin your research full-time and draw up a plan for applying for further funding. The finalization grant grant provides up to 1,500 EUR per month for a period of 2 to 3 months during the final phase of your doctoral thesis.
Eligibility
- Level: You are a PhD student at the Faculty of Arts at UEF or are applying for admission to a PhD programme there.
- Field of study: Your degree subject is relevant to this department; examples include humanities and languages, cultural studies, literary studies, translation studies, speech and language therapy, theology, psychology or educational studies.
- Stage (start-up grant): You are just starting your PhD. If you are already eligible to undertake a PhD at the faculty, you are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Stage (finalization grant): You are in the final stages of your PhD thesis and would like to complete it.
- No parallel paid job: You cannot hold full-time paid work during the grant period. You also cannot be employed as a doctoral researcher at UEF in the same calendar year as the start-up grant.
- Research group: Membership of a research group has a positive impact on the award of the start-up grant.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
You should apply for the initial scholarship at the same time as applying for admission to the PhD programme in the FILOTO programme via the studyinfo.fi portal. For the final scholarship, please send your application and a brief research plan to the Faculty of Philosophy by 7 September. The scholarships are awarded through a selection process, so acceptance is not automatic.
