Konnevesi Scholarship - Scholarship

Konnevesi Grant for thesis writers (University of Jyväskylä)

You will receive 330 EUR for a five-day stay at the Konnevesi Research Station, a peaceful place where you can concentrate fully on completing your dissertation. The scholarship covers the cost of a private bedroom in a shared flat, three meals a day from Monday to Friday, and the cheapest public bus ticket between Jyväskylä and Konnevesi. The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) has been running this programme since 1993, and every year between 50 and 60 students take part. You will need to book and pay for this yourself initially. The money will then be transferred to your bank account after your stay, as soon as you provide proof of payment.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are writing a Master’s thesis, a diploma thesis or a doctoral thesis at the University of Jyväskylä.
• No JYU job: You do not have an employment contract with the university. The only exception is student ambassadors, who may still apply. If JYU offers you a position, you should instead apply via the Research Council’s separate ‘Konnevesi’ funding scheme.
• Stage of your work: Your thesis is far enough along that a few quiet days would help you finish it. Your supervisor confirms this in a written statement.
• Once per degree: You can only receive this funding once per degree. If you have already received it for your Master’s degree, you can apply again later for your PhD.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of Jyväskylä.

How to apply

First, speak to your supervisor and ask them to send a brief letter of support by email to the Student and Academic Services Department. Then complete the application form in Webropol and email the form for the scholarship payment. You can apply at any time of the year. It is easiest to secure a place between September and April.
