About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a grant to cover the direct costs of a nature or environmental project, such as travel and materials. It may also be paid out as a personal grant to recognise or support your work. The amount of the grant is not fixed in advance. Background: The association allocates a limited funding pool each year: in 2026, KLYY awarded a total of 35,000 EUR across all funding categories, and in 2025, 10,000 EUR was paid into the pool for member grants. The money comes from the Kuopion Luonnon Ystäväin Yhdistys ry (KLYY), Finland’s oldest nature conservation organisation, which was founded in Kuopio in 1896.
Eligibility
- Membership: You are a KLYY member and have paid your membership fee by 31 December of the previous year.
- Project: Your plan relates to nature, the environment or KLYY's own activities. This covers research, hobby projects and publication work.
- Student status: You do not need to be a student, and there is no requirement to attend a specific university.
- Nationality: Anyone can apply, regardless of their nationality.
- Giving back: You may be asked to present your project at one of the association’s events or to write an article about it for the KLYY publication.
- Priority: If the number of applications received exceeds the funds available, preference will be given to long-standing and active members.
How to apply
Fill in the membership grant application form on the KLYY website, sign it and send it by post or as a scanned PDF. You can apply every year from 1 to 31 March. The winners will be announced in early May and notified by post and email.
