About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off travel allowance of 200 to 600 EUR for a self-organised stay abroad that is not part of an exchange programme such as Erasmus+ or North2North. The amount of the grant depends on where you are travelling to and how long you will be staying:
- Europe: 300 EUR for 3 to 6 months, 400 EUR for 7 to 12 months
- Outside Europe: 400 EUR for 3 to 6 months, 500 EUR for 7 to 12 months
- Short stays of less than 3 months: 200 EUR
The grant is awarded by the University of Lapland in Finland. It supplements other funding you may already be receiving, such as grants from charities or the Rotary Club. You can apply for additional support under the ‘Green Travel’ scheme if you travel at least half the distance by bus, train, carpool or bicycle. You can also apply for an additional grant if you incur extra costs due to a disability or illness.
Eligibility
- University: You are studying at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland.
- Type of stay: You organise your stay abroad yourself. This is known as a ‘freemover stay’, which means that you are travelling independently and not as part of an existing exchange agreement.
- Length: You stay 3 to 12 months for the full grant, or less than 3 months for the reduced amount.
- Destination: You can travel to any country you like, whether in Europe or beyond.
- Field of study: All subjects can apply.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
How to apply
You apply online via the university’s SoleMOVE system and apply for the scholarship via the linked SoleGRANT tool, which automatically populates your exchange details. You must attach your confirmation of admission from the host university and your signed Learning Agreement (your approved study plan for your period abroad). You will be notified of the decision by email.
