KSP Student Paper Award

You will win 750 EUR for a written course assignment on the Arab world or the Gulf region, and your work will be published online. The prize is awarded by the Kuwait Programme at Sciences Po, a joint initiative between the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) and a Kuwaiti scientific foundation. It is awarded twice a year, once in the spring term and once in the autumn term.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are a Master’s student at the Paris School of International Affairs (part of Sciences Po), for example as part of an exchange programme. Students from all universities in Kuwait may also apply, provided they are in their fourth year of a Bachelor’s degree or are enrolled on a Master’s programme.
• Subject of the paper: Your work focuses on the Arab world or the Gulf region.
• Field of study: Any subject from the social sciences or humanities is permitted.
• What counts as a paper: You wrote the text to pass a course, not specifically for the prize.
• Language: You have written the paper in English.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You cannot enter yourself. Your professor nominates your paper by email and names the university, the course and you. Each course can put forward up to two papers. The deadline is 15 May for the spring cycle. If your paper goes forward, you confirm you want to take part, and a selection committee then reviews the entries.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is very specific. It is open only to Master’s students at a Parisian higher education institution and to students at universities in Kuwait, and only papers on the Arab world or the Gulf region are eligible. This keeps the pool of entrants small. The biggest hurdle is that a professor must specifically highlight your work; therefore, the most important thing is to write a paper that is good enough to be nominated.
