About this grant / loan
What the FSDIE social aid gives you
You will receive an amount of one-off cash payment, usually up to 1,500 EUR, which is capped at 5,000 EUR in exceptional cases and will be paid directly into your bank account. This is emergency financial assistance for students at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris who have encountered financial difficulties whilst studying. It covers situations such as unaffordable rent, travel costs, loss of access to a computer or the internet, health problems, general study costs or a financial shortfall whilst you are waiting for a government grant. The payment supplements your own income and your grants; it does not replace them. It comes from the FSDIE fund, which is financed by the Campus Life Contribution (CVEC) paid by every student upon enrolment.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris 3) for the current academic year.
- Type of studies: Every course of study counts: a standard degree programme, a continuing education course or a university diploma.
- Financial need: Financial difficulties are affecting your studies – for example, tuition fees, accommodation costs or healthcare costs, or the fact that you have not been awarded a scholarship. This is the decisive factor.
- Nationality, age, subject: No restrictions. Applicants of any nationality, age or academic discipline are welcome to apply.
- Once per semester: You have not yet received this grant in the same semester of the same year.
How to apply
Please contact the University’s Social Services department by email or book an appointment online. A university social worker will help you compile the necessary documents and check them. They will then submit your case anonymously to the FSDIE Social Committee, which meets several times a year. You will receive a written decision stating the amount granted or the reasons for any rejection.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is available exclusively to students enrolled at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and is awarded on a case-by-case basis on the grounds of genuine financial hardship; it is therefore not a competition based on grades or academic performance. If you can provide clear evidence of your circumstances to the social worker, your chances are good. You can also resubmit your application at the next committee meeting if your documents are incomplete; it is therefore worth submitting a complete set of documents as early as possible.
