What the fee exemption gives you

CY Cergy Paris Université (formerly Université de Cergy-Pontoise, near Paris) may waive your enrolment fees in full or in part. If you are studying from outside the EU, you will normally pay the higher ‘differentiated’ fees: approximately 2,902 EUR per year for a Bachelor’s degree programme and 3,950 EUR per year for a Master’s degree programme. With a partial waiver, you will instead be charged the domestic fees, which range from around 178 EUR for a Bachelor’s degree to 393 EUR for a PhD (255 EUR for a Master’s degree). If you are an EU student in financial need, you may be fully exempted from these domestic fees. Once the exemption has been granted, it applies to your entire Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, not just for one year.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at CY Cergy Paris Université or are about to enrol.
• Level: Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students are all eligible for insurance.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. Students from non-EU countries may apply to pay the lower domestic tuition fees. EU students in financial hardship may apply for exemption from domestic tuition fees.
• Financial or academic case: A committee will make a decision based on your academic performance and your personal or financial circumstances. You will need a valid reason to be exempted from this rule.
• Automatic cases: Some students are exempt from the examination by the committee. These include refugees, apprentices, holders of an excellence scholarship, individuals with a 10-year residence permit, and those who have been liable for tax in France for at least two years.

How to apply

Students from non-EU countries should email their application to the university’s Differentiated Tuition Fees Office. EU students experiencing financial hardship should email their application to the Social Exemptions Office. The deadline is 30 November. A committee will then review the applications and inform you of the outcome by email within a few days. Apply early, as places are snapped up quickly.

How realistic are your chances?

The exemptions granted by the committee are limited to 10 per cent of all enrolled students, ensuring that there is genuine competition and that a compelling application is crucial. If you fall into one of the automatic categories, you are exempt from the assessment. Otherwise, an impeccable academic record, together with a well-documented financial or personal situation submitted at an early stage, will give you the best prospects.
