Thesis Award for Medical Doctoral Dissertations

You are receiving the 500 EUR Prize for the best medical doctoral thesis (thèse d’exercice, the thesis you defend to obtain your doctoral degree) at the University of Grenoble Alpes in France. The Faculty of Medicine’s Research Committee awards the prize once a year. Two prize-winners are honoured each year: one prize is awarded by the Faculty of Medicine, and the other by AGRUS, a local association dedicated to promoting the health campus in Grenoble.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are a medical student at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Grenoble Alpes.
• Field: Medicine only.
• Your thesis: You defended your doctoral thesis in medicine between 1 September and 31 August of the relevant academic year.
• Publication: You have published at least 1 articles on the subject of your doctoral thesis in a recognised medical journal. This is the most important selection criterion.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. The chair of your examination board will put forward your work to the awards committee. The nomination period takes place in September, after which the faculty’s communications office will contact the students concerned directly.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is presented to very few people. Only medical theses defended in Grenoble in a single year are eligible, and you must be nominated by someone else rather than applying yourself. The requirement for a published research paper further narrows the field down to the very strongest theses. If your chair of the examination board nominates your work and you can demonstrate a publication in a specialist journal, you already belong to a small, high-calibre group.
