Student Family Allowance (AFDE) of Haute-Saône

You will receive a one-off payment of 150 EUR to 800 EUR for one school year. The exact amount depends on your family’s income and your age, with older pupils receiving a higher amount. The grant is awarded by the Haute-Saône department in eastern France and supports families who are unable to rely on a paid study programme to fund their child’s education.

Who can apply

• Where your parents live: Your parents’ main residence is in the Haute-Saône department.
• Study level: After completing the Baccalauréat (the French school-leaving certificate), you will study at a public, private or distance-learning university, such as the CNED.
• Where you study: You can study in France or abroad.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Age: During the school year, you will report to 26.
• No paid study: You will not receive a salary during your training; it is therefore neither a dual study programme nor a paid apprenticeship.
• Length of study: Your programme lasts for at least 4 months.
• Family income: Your family’s monthly income ratio, as calculated from the most recent tax assessment, is less than 1,200 EUR.

How to apply

The family’s legal guardian submits the application online via the authority’s public services portal. You submit one application per family, even if several children are attending school. The application period runs each year from 1 September to 31 December.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a very narrowly defined local benefit. Your parents must live in Haute-Saône and your family’s income must be below the income threshold, so the number of people eligible is small and the benefit is not particularly attractive. If you meet the eligibility criteria regarding residence, age and income, and submit your application before the deadline in December, you can expect to receive the grant.
