FSDIE Social Aid

You will receive a one-off emergency payment if you are studying at the Université Gustave Eiffel and suddenly find yourself in financial difficulty. The university determines the amount on a case-by-case basis according to your circumstances, and you do not have to repay it. At French universities, these grants usually range from 100 EUR to 1,500 EUR. They cover expenses such as food, rent, travel costs, a computer or healthcare costs. The money comes from the university’s own solidarity fund (FSDIE) and is separate from the state-funded CROUS grant. It is intended to help in an emergency, but not to finance your entire academic year. In 2020, the Université Gustave Eiffel took over the former University of Marne-la-Vallée.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Université Gustave Eiffel.
• Financial need: You are currently facing a temporary financial problem or a serious social difficulty.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at the university.
• Degree level: Admission at any stage of study.

How to apply

Make an appointment with the University’s Social Services (Service d’Action Sociale). A social worker will discuss your situation with you and help you complete the application. This will then be assessed by a committee. There is no fixed deadline, as applications are processed throughout the academic year.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an emergency fund, not a means-tested grant. It is not about grades or a strong academic profile, but about a genuine, verifiable financial hardship. If you are enrolled at the university and can demonstrate genuine financial difficulties, your chances are good. The more clearly you explain your situation to the social worker, the more likely it is that the committee will grant you support.
