Regional grant for medical internships in Centre-Val de Loire

You will receive up to 200 EUR per week for your accommodation, for a maximum of 6 weeks, making a total of up to 1,200 EUR. This money will be used to reimburse you for the actual costs of a room or hotel accommodation incurred during your general practice placement in a medically underserved area of the Centre-Val de Loire region, away from your place of study. Payment is made by the Centre-Val de Loire region and covers accommodation costs only; it does not cover the costs of your usual place of residence. You may combine this grant with other forms of financial support, such as grants from the departmental council, the regional travel allowance and national grants such as the CROUS.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a 4th-year medical student (DFASM curriculum) at the Faculty of Medicine in Tours.
• Internship: You are undertaking your general practice placement in the Centre-Val de Loire region, in a location far from where you are studying.
• Where it counts: The placement must be carried out in a medically underserved area. Placements in the Tours conurbation (municipalities such as Joué-les-Tours, Chambray-les-Tours, Ballan-Miré or Fondettes) are not eligible.
• Accommodation: You are paying for a room, a flat or a hotel that is not your usual place of residence.
• Contract: The work placement forms part of your official degree programme and is carried out under a study contract or a work placement agreement.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

How to apply

Applications are made via the Student Administration Office (Service de scolarité) of the Faculty of Medicine in Tours. There is no fixed deadline. You will receive the money as soon as you provide proof of payment for your accommodation, such as a tenancy agreement marked as paid or a paid hotel bill.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must be a medical student in your 4th year of study in Tours, be undertaking a placement in specific underserved areas, and cover the costs of your local accommodation yourself. Very few students meet all these conditions, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. This is a cost reimbursement scheme, not a competitive process. If you meet the criteria and can provide proof of your expenses, your chances are good.
