SPILF (French-Language Infectious Disease Society) and the CMIT (college of university teachers in infectious and tropical diseases) - Bourses de recherche SPILF et CMIT

What you get

You will receive a one-off research grant for a clinical or experimental project in the field of infectious diseases (infectiology). Two French medical societies, the SPILF and the CMIT, award these grants jointly. Each "Junior" grants from the SPILF is worth 10,000 EUR, and as a rule, three are awarded. The "Jeune Chercheur" grant from the CMIT is endowed with 20,000 EUR. It is intended to fund a PhD thesis or a research project linked to an academic career at a university hospital in the field of infectious and tropical diseases. A research placement abroad is a possibility, but not the norm. The executive committees of the two societies determine the number of grants each year.

Who can apply

• Field: Your project focuses on infectious diseases (infectious diseases), whether in the clinical or experimental field.
• Career stage (Junior/SPILF): You are not permanently employed as hospital staff. Two of the three scholarships are awarded to doctors in training (internists) or clinical assistants (CCAs) who are undergoing specialist training in infectious and tropical diseases.
• Career stage (Jeune Chercheur/CMIT): You are a junior doctor (internal medicine) or a practising clinician.
• Membership: You are a member of SPILF and have paid your current membership fees.
• One grant only: If you have already received a SPILF ‘Junior’ scholarship, you are not eligible to apply for the CMIT ‘Jeune Chercheur’ scholarship for a period of three years.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Please submit your application by email as a single PDF file of no more than 20 pages, using the official form. A panel of judges will decide on both types of funding, and the results will be announced by email in early June. The application deadline for 2026 has passed, and the dates for 2027 have not yet been set.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria are very strict. Applicants must be working in the field of infectious disease research, be a member of SPILF and be at a specific stage of their medical training in France. In the 2025 round, 3 out of 10 applicants received a SPILF grant and 2 out of 4 received the CMIT grant, so the number of participants is small. If you clearly meet these conditions and submit a compelling project proposal, your prospects are good. Please note that the jury may decide not to award the CMIT grant at all.
