International Excellence Scholarships (University of Leeds)

Benefit

You get a one-off cut in your first-year tuition fee of about 3,500 EUR, 7,000 EUR or 18,500 EUR (£3,000, £6,000 or £16,000), depending on which award you are given. The University of Leeds hands out up to 500 of these scholarships to international students starting a bachelor's degree. The money comes straight off your tuition bill. It cannot pay for living costs or rent, cannot move to a later year, and cannot transfer to a different course.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are starting year 1 of a bachelor's degree at the University of Leeds in September 2026.
• Where you study: You study in Leeds, in the UK.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. The scholarship is for international fee-paying students from more than 140 countries, and you do not need to be from the UK.
• Your offer: You already hold a conditional or unconditional place on an eligible course.
• Funding: You pay for your studies yourself, in full or in part.
• Grades: You have excellent school results.
• Beyond grades: You can show strong personal skills through extracurricular activities. You also write a short statement (around 100 words) on why you want to study at Leeds.
• Excluded courses: Medicine and Surgery MBChB and Dental Surgery BChD do not qualify. Students on the Leeds International Study Centre International Year One are also excluded, as are Foundation Year students moving up to a degree in 2026.

How to apply

Once you hold an offer, the university emails you an invitation to fill in the scholarship application form. There is no interview. You are chosen on your written application alone.

How realistic are your chances?

With up to 500 awards on offer, this is one of the larger international scholarship schemes, so the odds are easier than for a single high-profile prize. It is still competitive, since it is open to fee-paying students from over 140 countries and weighs both grades and extracurricular strengths. A clear record beyond the classroom and a focused personal statement set applicants apart, and applying by the earlier deadline helps.
