About this scholarship
Inlaks Foundation Scholarship
You will receive up to about 110,000 EUR (USD 120,000) to fund a full-time postgraduate programme abroad. The amount you receive depends on your course of study. It covers tuition fees, living costs, a one-way flight, visa fees and a contribution towards healthcare costs. You may be eligible for funding for a Master’s, MPhil or PhD programme lasting between 9 months and 4 years at a leading university in the United Kingdom, other European countries or the United States. The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation awards these scholarships to enable young Indian graduates to study abroad. At six partner universities (Imperial College London, the Royal College of Art, the University of Cambridge, King’s College London, St Andrews and the Hertie School in Berlin), combined scholarships may result in the total amount exceeding the upper limit of 120,000 US dollars.
Who can apply
- Nationality and residence: You hold an Indian passport and are living in India at the time of application.
- Age: You were born on or after 1 January 1996 (around 30 or younger).
- Degree: You hold a degree from a recognised Indian university. Even if you are in your final year of study and are still awaiting your results, you may still apply.
- Admission: You have already been granted admission (conditional or unconditional) to your chosen degree programme. You cannot apply without proof of admission.
- Grades: At least 65% (CGPA 6.8/10 or GPA 2.6/4) for social sciences, humanities, law, fine arts and architecture; at least 70% (CGPA 7.2/10 or GPA 3/4) for Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies.
- Field of study: Open to a wide range of subjects, but NOT to business and finance, computer science, engineering, fashion design, film and animation, hospitality and tourism, MBA and management, medicine and dentistry, or music. There are a few exceptions (for example, documentary film, Western classical singing and engineering at Imperial College London).
- No prior study abroad: You have not yet started or completed a postgraduate course abroad. If you obtained your bachelor’s degree at a foreign university, you must have lived, worked or studied in India for at least two years since then.
How to apply
Apply online via the Foundation’s website by 31 March at 12:00. Shortlisted candidates will take part in online pre-selection interviews. The finalists will then attend a face-to-face interview in Mumbai.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a single, prestigious national award open to Indian graduates from a wide range of disciplines; as such, it attracts high-calibre applicants and competition is fierce. The selection process takes into account not only your grades but also your achievements to date and your future potential; so a clear, well-reasoned application is crucial. If you have a firm offer of admission, meet the grade requirements and are studying an eligible subject, you are in a very strong position, but an offer is not guaranteed.
