About this scholarship

USAL International Master's Scholarship

You will be offered a fully-funded place on a one-year Master’s programme at the University of Salamanca (USAL) in Spain. This covers your tuition fees (the first 60 ECTS credits, if the programme lasts longer than one year), health, travel and accident insurance for the entire year, as well as accommodation with meals in a USAL student hall of residence, usually a shared double room from October to July. The programme lasts one academic year and cannot be extended. It is offered by USAL in partnership with Banco Santander and the Fundación Carolina. You will not receive any cash payment. You are responsible for the costs of the Christmas and Easter holidays, as well as any administrative or certificate fees.

Who can apply

  • Where you come from: You live in one of the approximately 20 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
  • Study level: You would like to start an official Master’s degree programme at the University of Salamanca. You may either already be enrolled or have just graduated.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Spanish: If Spanish is not your first language, you will need a B2 certificate (’upper intermediate’ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  • Admission step: You must meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme and complete the pre-enrolment (preinscripción) process at USAL. Admission to the Master’s programme and the award of the scholarship are two separate decisions.
  • Not a repeat: You have not yet received this scholarship.

How to apply

The application process consists of two steps, both of which are compulsory. Please complete the online form on the USAL International Relations Service website and, at the same time, register on the Santander Open Academy platform for this Master’s programme. If you skip either of these steps, you will be excluded from the selection process. The application deadline is 11 June at 14:00 Spanish time. Selection will be based solely on your application documents: 70% on your academic results and 30% on your personal statement.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly targeted: only Latin American students who wish to study at a specific Spanish university are eligible to apply, and in recent rounds of awards, between approximately 35 and 48 places were allocated. As a result, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding country of origin, language skills and admission, and can demonstrate good grades and a compelling personal statement, your chances are good.
