About this grant / loan

Student loan for tuition fees at King's College London

You can borrow up to about EUR 11,300 per year (£9,790) to cover your full tuition fees for courses starting in September 2026. This is a government loan, not a grant. The UK Student Loans Company pays it directly to King's College London in three instalments a year, so the money never passes through your own account. You repay it only after you finish, and only once you earn above a set income level. From the April after you graduate, you repay 9% of whatever you earn above the threshold for your repayment plan. Students who started after August 2023 are on Plan 5. If your income stays below the threshold, you pay nothing. Interest is added from your first payment onwards.

Who can apply

  • Residency: You are a "Home" student, meaning you are settled in the UK. EU students qualify only if they started their course between 2017 and 2020.
  • First qualification: This is your first higher education qualification. If you already hold a degree, you normally cannot get the loan, even if you paid for the earlier course yourself.
  • Type of course: A UK first degree (BA, BSc, BEd), a Foundation Degree, Initial Teacher Training, an integrated master's, or a pre-registration postgraduate healthcare course.
  • Study mode: Full time, or part time if your course runs at 25% intensity or more.

How to apply

You apply for the loan as part of your general student support application through the government student finance service. You can change the loan amount later. If you do not borrow the full fee, you must pay the remaining tuition to King's yourself by 31 January 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award. It is standard government funding, so if you are a UK Home student on a first undergraduate degree and have not studied at this level before, you are entitled to it. The main things that rule people out are having a previous degree or an EU status outside the 2017 to 2020 window. Meet the residency and course conditions and apply on time, and the loan is yours.
