University College Cork - THE JOE GANTLY PRIZE IN ENGINEERING

What you get

You will receive a cash prize of 1,500 EUR for the best work placement amongst engineering students at University College Cork (UCC). The money comes from an annual donation by the Cork Chamber, a local business organisation, in memory of Joe Gantly, a Cork-born engineer who worked in industry and at UCC. The judging panel may also award smaller cash prizes to other students who present their work placements, meaning that more than one student may win a cash prize in any given year.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying engineering at UCC on the ‘BE (Honours)’ bachelor’s degree programme.
• Best placement mark: You achieved the highest mark in the ‘Work Placement’ module of your degree programme. One top student qualifies per degree programme.
• Field of study: Any engineering degree programme at UCC is eligible, for example civil engineering, energy engineering, process engineering or chemical engineering.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are currently enrolled at UCC.

How to apply

You do not send a separate application. If you have the top placement mark on your programme, you are invited to present your work placement to a panel of three judges: the Head of the School of Engineering, the Head of the College, and a Cork Chamber representative. They decide which student completed the best placement.
