About this scholarship

Benefit

You get 1,000 EUR per year for the full length of your course: 2, 3 or 4 years, depending on your programme. The award is reviewed every year and continues as long as your academic results are satisfactory. As a sports scholar you can also enter your course with fewer points than usual. On top of the money you get academic support, peer mentoring (older students guide and advise you), performance testing, access to the sports facilities and high-performance workshops. The scholarship comes from Munster Technological University (MTU) at its Kerry Campus in Tralee.

Eligibility

  • Where you study: You are enrolled as a student at the MTU Kerry Campus in Tralee.
  • Course: Any full-time degree programme in any department is permitted.
  • Sport: Athletes from all sports are welcome to apply.
  • Where you come from: You can come from anywhere. Unlike the GAA scholarships on the same campus, you do not have to be from Kerry or Munster.
  • Entry points: You have at least 85% of the CAO points required for this degree programme this year. The CAO is Ireland’s central applications office, which sets the points required for each degree programme.
  • School results: You have passed the ‘Leaving Certificate’, Ireland’s school-leaving examination, and meet the minimum entry requirements for the degree programme. To enrol on a degree programme at level 6 or 7, you must have achieved at least a grade of O6/H7 in English or Irish, in Mathematics and in three other subjects. To qualify for an Honours degree (Level 8), you need two H5 grades and four O6/H7 grades, including English or Irish and Mathematics.

How to apply

Apply directly to the Sports Officer at MTU Kerry Campus or through the campus GAA Games Promotion Office. The text names no online form and no fixed deadline.
