About this scholarship

Access to Medicine Scholarship Scheme

You get your full tuition fees covered plus a contribution towards your living costs. This runs for the four years of the Graduate Entry medicine degree (BMBS) at the University of Limerick. Funding continues for all four years as long as your results stay satisfactory and you remain in good standing with the university. The School of Medicine at the University of Limerick runs the scheme. BMBS stands for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery; Graduate Entry means you join after already holding a first degree.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are an Irish or EU applicant.
  • Access background: You entered higher education through a recognised access route for students from under-resourced backgrounds, such as the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR).
  • Your degree: You hold an honours bachelor's degree with at least a 2.1 (upper second-class) result.
  • Entry test: You have the GAMSAT score the medicine programme requires. GAMSAT is the admissions test for graduate-entry medicine.
  • Your place: You have been offered a place on the University of Limerick's BMBS Graduate Entry programme through the CAO, Ireland's central university application system.

How to apply

In March 2026, CAO applicants are invited to fill in an online form and attach proof of their access status, for example a HEAR confirmation. All forms and documents must be in by Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Incomplete applications are not considered. A scholarship committee from the School of Medicine, the UL Access Office and the UL Foundation then decides who is awarded, assessing each application on its own merit.
