Away from home scholarships (Politecnico di Milano)

You will receive a grant of one-off payment of 3,080 EUR (gross) to cover the higher cost of living away from home, particularly rent. The Politecnico di Milano in Milan is awarding 103 of these grants for the academic year 2025/2026. It is paid as a one-off sum and is intended for students who rent accommodation because their place of residence is too far from the campus.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the Politecnico di Milano on a Bachelor’s degree programme (not the online ‘Computer Engineering’ programme), a Master’s degree programme with a standard duration, or a two-year Master’s degree programme.
• Master's first year: If you are in the first year of a Master’s degree programme, you will have obtained your Bachelor’s degree from the Politecnico di Milano.
• Living away from home: Your registered place of residence is not in Milan and is more than 90 minutes’ journey from the campus by public transport, and you are renting a room or flat near the campus. International students (from both EU and non-EU countries) are automatically considered not to be living at home, unless their family lives in Italy.
• Rental contract: You are renting paid accommodation for at least 10 consecutive months, roughly from October 2025 to July 2026.
• Field of study: Every subject taught at the Politecnico (engineering, architecture, design).
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Income: Your ISEE/ISEEU for 2025 is 51,000 euros or less. The ISEE is an official Italian measure of your household’s income and assets.
• Grades: First-year students are assessed on the basis of their results in the entrance examination or their final mark in their Bachelor’s degree programme. Students in higher semesters must have earned a certain number of credit points by 30 November 2025, with a weighted average of at least 27 out of 30.
• No earlier degree: You have not yet obtained a qualification at the same or a higher level.

How to apply

You must apply via the Politecnico di Milano’s online service portal and submit your ISEE income certificate. The application deadline is 18 December 2025 at 12:00 (Italian time). A provisional ranking list, based on income and grades, will be published on 25 February 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

As the 103 scholarships are allocated amongst undergraduates, single-cycle students and postgraduates, there are a considerable number of places available. Eligibility is strictly limited to students at the Politecnico who do not live at home and who meet the income threshold. If you clearly meet these conditions and have good grades (an average of 27/30 or a high entry mark), your chances are good. In the event of a tie, preference is given first to the applicant with the lower income and then to the younger applicant; therefore, well-documented proof of financial need is an advantage.
