About this scholarship

Liguria regional university scholarship (ALiSEO)

You will receive an annual scholarship of about 2,900 to 7,200 EUR, comprising a cash payment and benefits in kind. The lower amount is intended for students who live near the university. The higher amount is intended for students who move away from home to study and covers the costs of accommodation and meals. Each scholarship holder also receives a free daily lunch at an ALiSEO canteen, a free place in an ALiSEO hall of residence if they are studying away from home, and full exemption from the University of Genoa’s tuition fees and the regional tuition fee. In some cases, additional allowances are available: for example, +20% for women studying STEM subjects, +40% for students with a recognised disability, and an allowance for students on the Erasmus exchange programme. The funds come from the Italian region of Liguria and are paid out by ALiSEO, the local student agency.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Genoa or at a higher education institution for art and music (AFAM) in Liguria.
  • Level: Bachelor’s degree, a single-cycle or two-year Master’s programme, a PhD or a specialist training programme lasting at least two years. Specialist medical training programmes are excluded. Only the first qualification at each level of study is eligible for funding.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Non-EU students who do not hold an Italian identity card may register using their passport number.
  • Financial need: Your family’s income indicator for higher education (ISEEU) must not exceed approximately 28,000 euros. The asset indicator (ISPEU) must not exceed approximately 61,000 euros.
  • Study progress: First-year students do not need to have any prior credits, but must earn at least 20 CFU (credits) during the year. Students in higher semesters must have earned a specified number of credits by 10 August.

How to apply

First, obtain your ISEEU certificate from a tax advice centre (CAAF) or via the INPS portal. Then submit the online application on the ALiSEO website using a digital identity (SPID or CIE). Students without an Italian identity card must follow a different procedure. They must apply by 31 July at 12:00 midday each academic year. There is no interview. Places are awarded solely on the basis of academic merit and income.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a needs-based regional scheme, not a competition between individuals. If you are studying in Liguria, meet the income thresholds and earn the required credits, you will be placed on a ranking list and will not have to face a selection panel. As selection is based on a clear formula, a suitable applicant who submits all documents correctly has very good prospects. Make sure your ISEEU certificate and your academic transcript are in order before the deadline in July.
