About this scholarship

What you get

You receive a one-off scholarship of 3,500 EUR, paid as a single bank transfer to your Italian account. It rewards both strong grades and financial need, so it is worth applying even if you are not top of your year. The money comes from the Varese Chamber of Commerce (Camera di Commercio di Varese), which funds 8 of these awards, named after its former president Renato Scapolan. The Chamber ranks applicants by study stage: 2nd-year Master's students first, then 1st-year Master's, then later-year Bachelor's, and last 1st-year Bachelor's.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at Carlo Cattaneo University (LIUC) in Castellanza, Italy.
  • Field of study: You study Business Economics (Economia Aziendale), at Bachelor's or Master's level. Management Engineering students cannot apply.
  • Grades: You meet the grade requirements for your year of study. First-year Bachelor’s students must have a school-leaving qualification with a grade of at least 80/100 and must not have repeated any years. Students in higher semesters must have achieved a specified minimum number of ECTS credits by 10 August, as well as a weighted average mark of at least 25/30.
  • Financial need: Your ISEE is 50,000 EUR or less. The ISEE is the official Italian measure of your family’s financial situation for the purposes of student grants.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
  • Other grants: This grant cannot be combined with a full exemption from tuition fees or a similar grant from another institution. However, you may retain any grant for international mobility or a grant for an internship.

How to apply

You must apply online via the LIUC website by 20 October. Please attach your ISEE certificate and the required supporting documents, and ensure that your tuition fees have been paid in full. A committee, which includes a representative from the Chamber of Commerce, assesses applicants on the basis of their academic results and financial need. The results will be announced in early December.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. Applicants must be studying a specific subject at a specific university and provide evidence that their family income falls within the ISEE limit, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. With a total of 35 scholarships available through the joint selection process (8 from the Chamber, 27 from LIUC), the chances for a suitable applicant are reasonable. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding grades and income, your prospects are good.
