About this award / prize

"Cav. Giacomo Alberti" Degree Award

The best dissertation on Imperia and Western Liguria (Liguria di Ponente), a coastal region in north-western Italy, will receive a one-off prize of 1,000 EUR. The prize is awarded annually by the “Cumpagnia de l’Urivu”, a cultural association in Imperia, in memory of Giacomo Alberti, a local industrialist who supported the association for many years.

Who can apply

  • What you submit: You have written and successfully defended a final dissertation (Bachelor’s, Master’s or specialisation dissertation).
  • Topic: Your dissertation focuses mainly on Imperia and Western Liguria and covers topics such as history, art, economics, environmental sciences, design and local traditions (for example, the region’s olive oil tradition).
  • University: You may have studied at any university, whether in Italy or abroad.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

How to apply

Please send a copy of your final dissertation to the office of the “Cumpagnia de l'Urivu” in Imperia by 31.05. A three-member expert jury will assess the submitted theses and select the one it considers to be the best, most original and most thorough. The award ceremony will take place in June as part of a ceremony in Imperia.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very narrowly defined. Your dissertation must focus on Imperia and Western Liguria, meaning that only a small group of graduates qualify for it each year. If your thesis clearly fits this regional theme and is well researched, your chances are good, as there is only one prize and only a few suitable candidates are competing for it.
