About this scholarship

What you get

If you have completed secondary school or your bachelor’s degree with top marks, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) in Italy will waive your first-year tuition fees. You will still only be required to pay the set compulsory fees. If you live outside the Emilia-Romagna region, you will pay only 159.67 EUR in your first year, meaning your tuition fees will be waived in full. If you live in Emilia-Romagna, you will pay a total of 859.67 EUR in your first year, which corresponds to a partial exemption, split into 159.67 EUR upon enrolment and 700.00 euros later. The exemption applies only to your first year of enrolment. It is administered by ER.GO, the regional student support organisation, on behalf of UNIMORE, and is based solely on your grades, with no means test.

Who can apply

  • Top marks: You scored 100/100 in the Italian school-leaving exam (esame di maturità) and enrol in your first year of any UNIMORE degree. Or you scored 110/110 in your final three-year Bachelor's (laurea triennale) or diploma exam and enrol in your first year of a two-year Master's.
  • First-year students only: It seems this is your first time registering. Students who are already in higher semesters are not eligible to apply.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • No income proof: Exemption depends solely on your marks. There is no assessment of financial need or ISEE.
  • Where you live: Both residents and non-residents of Emilia-Romagna are eligible. Your address simply determines whether you are entitled to a full or partial exemption.

How to apply

You apply online through the ER.GO portal, using an Italian digital identity (SPID, electronic ID card CIE, or health card CNS). Fill in the personal-data form and choose the "ESONERO TOP STUDENT" option. The deadline is 6 November 2026 at 4 p.m. for three-year or single-cycle degrees, and 22 December 2026 at 4 p.m. for two-year Master's programmes. There is no interview: the waiver is granted directly on the basis of your final grade.

How realistic are your chances?

There is neither a competition nor a ranking here. If you have achieved exactly the required mark (100/100 at school or 110/110 in your Bachelor’s degree), enrol as a first-year student at UNIMORE and submit your application by the deadline, you will be granted the exemption. The only real hurdle is the top mark itself, which is rarely achieved. Apply online before you enrol, and make sure you have a valid digital identity to hand.
