Luigi Bocconi University (Milan/Italy) - Student accommodation discounts

What you get

You will be offered a room in a Bocconi University hall of residence at a price of reduced rate, or in some cases free of charge. This offer is aimed at students at Luigi Bocconi University in Milan with a low household income. Bocconi University operates seven of its own halls of residence as well as partner accommodation, with a total of more than 2,800 beds. Over 600 of these are offered at reduced rates. Rooms are allocated for one academic year, which runs roughly from the end of August to the end of June. There are three price tiers:

• Reduced tariff (Tariffa Agevolata): The largest discount, divided into three income brackets. It is determined in accordance with the ISU Bocconi’s rules regarding income and academic results.
• Medium reduced tariff (Tariffa Media Ridotta): A twin room with an en-suite bathroom in the “Villaggio Olimpico” residence for 615 euros per month. This includes service charges, internet, weekly cleaning with fresh bed linen and a 24-hour reception service.
• Full tariff (Tariffa Intera): The standard price for students without proof of income.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at Bocconi or are an exchange student there. Only Bocconi students and exchange students are permitted to use the halls of residence.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality.
• Financial need: To qualify for the reduced fee, you will need an ISEE/ISEEU income certificate showing a value below the thresholds set by the Lombardy Region. The ISEE is the official Italian certificate of a household’s income and assets. For the intermediate reduced rate, priority is given to students with an ISEE of 2027 from the University of 44,000 EUR or less; however, in a later round, registration will be open to all Bocconi students.
• Distance: To be eligible for the reduced fare, your place of residence must be more than 90 minutes away by public transport (a ‘fuori sede’ student).
• Study progress: To be eligible for the reduced tuition fee, you must have earned a minimum number of credit points. This increases from 11 ECTS in the first year to 240 ECTS in the fifth year. There is no minimum number of credit points for first-year students.
• No double funding: You must not already be in residence at Bocconi or be receiving any other benefits such as ‘Moving to Milan’ or ‘Una Scelta Possibile’.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via Bocconi University’s admissions portal. The application deadline for the reduced fee runs from 9 to 19 February. There are separate deadlines for the intermediate reduced fee: 4 March for first-year students, 11 March for students in higher semesters, and from 18 March for all students, subject to availability. First-year students must first submit an application for a study grant to ISU Bocconi before they can apply for the reduced rate.

How realistic are your chances?

With more than 600 subsidised places and the fact that the mid-tier reduced fee is ultimately available to all Bocconi students, a suitable applicant has good prospects. Only students who clearly meet the income and credit requirements are eligible for the highest discounts, so competition for these places is greater. Places are snapped up quickly, so you should apply in the earliest possible round that applies to your situation.
