About this scholarship
UIMP English immersion course scholarship
You will receive a fully funded one-week English immersion course worth about 568 EUR, which takes place at a boarding school in Spain. The scholarship covers tuition, learning materials, meals and accommodation. You only need to pay a booking fee of 100 EUR, as well as your travel costs to the course. The course runs from Sunday afternoon to Saturday and comprises approximately 40 hours of English lessons, with a focus on spoken English. Native-speaking teachers deliver lessons in small groups and through one-to-one tuition. You can choose from eight locations in Spain: Santander, Cuenca, Valencia, Seville, Tenerife, Barcelona, Cartagena or La Línea. At the end of the course, you will receive a bilingual UIMP diploma stating your language level and your ECTS credits (the European Credit Transfer System). The programme is run by the Spanish Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP).
Who can apply
- Government student aid: You received a general state grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education during the years 2021–2022 or 2022–2023. This grant must have been intended for a university degree, a degree in the performing arts, another form of higher education, vocational higher education or the final year of the Bachillerato (upper secondary education).
- Age: By the application deadline, you must be at least 18 and, on 31 December 2024, you must be under 30.
- English level: You already have an intermediate or advanced level of English. This will be confirmed by an online placement test and a test at the start of the course.
- Field of study: Anyone interested is very welcome.
- First-timers preferred: If you have never attended one of these courses before, you will be given priority.
- No double funding: You will not receive any further funding for the same course.
How to apply
You apply online via the Ministry’s platform within the specified period, which ended on 2024 in July. A committee draws up a ranking list of applicants; you then sit an online placement test before your place on the course is confirmed.
How realistic are your chances?
The eligibility criteria are strictly defined: you must already be in receipt of a current government scholarship and fall under 30, meaning that only this specific group can apply. In 2024, there were 3,165 places, with priority given to first-time applicants and those with the lowest family income. If you meet these criteria and have never taken part before, your chances are good.
