Petrus Canisius Fonds (Radboud University)

You get a one-off grant (the amount is not published) if you are a Dutch student at Radboud University in Nijmegen and money problems threaten your studies. The grant can cover costs like your tuition fees (collegegeld) so you can finish your degree. This is emergency help for financial hardship, not a reward for good grades. The money comes from the Petrus Canisius Fonds, a fund run by the Stichting Radboud Fonds, which supports students who cannot complete their studies for financial reasons.

Who can apply

• University: You study at Radboud University in Nijmegen.
• Nationality: You are a Dutch student. International students at Radboud University are covered by a sister fund, the Wubbenfonds, instead.
• Financial need: You are in real financial trouble. You cannot get help from family or friends, and you cannot rely on Dutch student finance (DUO).
• Risk to your studies: Your studies are at risk because of money, for example because you cannot pay your tuition fees.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

There is no public online form. Instead you contact a student counsellor (studentendecaan) at Radboud University, who guides you through the application. You can book an appointment online or reach the Central Student Desk. There is no fixed deadline, so you apply when the need arises.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a narrow hardship fund. You must be a Dutch student at one university, in genuine financial trouble, with no other source of support. That keeps the group of eligible applicants small. In 2024 the fund paid out about 12,451 EUR in total, so amounts are modest and depend on your situation. If you clearly meet the conditions and can document your need through a student counsellor, your prospects are good.
