Benefit

You get a partial tuition fee waiver of 10,000 EUR for the first year of your bachelor's degree at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) in Rotterdam. You do not get cash. The 10,000 EUR is simply taken off the tuition fee you owe, so you pay 10,000 EUR less. Four scholarships are awarded each year. It is named after Philip Hans Franses, the school's former dean, who set it up to encourage students to do their best.

Eligibility

• Nationality: You are a citizen of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA), meaning outside the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
• Degree: You are applying for one of three ESE bachelor programmes: International Econometrics and Operations Research, International Economics and Business Economics, or the double bachelor BSc2 in Econometrics and Economics.
• Admission: You have a selection offer for that programme. You do not need it when you apply, but only students who receive one are considered.
• Grades: Your secondary school results average at least 8.0 on a scale of 1 to 10.
• Financial need: You can show in a financial statement that you need this help to pay for your studies and living costs.
• Maths test: If your maths is found lacking during the admission check, you pass the maths entrance exam before 1 April 2026.
• Enrolment: You are enrolled no later than 1 September of the academic year the scholarship is for.

How to apply

First register for your programme in Studielink. Then submit your application documents in the EUR application portal by 1 February 2026, 23:59. You need a motivation letter, a financial statement, a budget plan and a certified transcript with a GPA statement. For International Economics and Business Economics the deadline is 15 January 2026. You are told the decision by email by 13 March 2026 at the latest.

How realistic are your chances?

Only four scholarships are given each year. They go to non-EEA students in a narrow set of economics and econometrics programmes who score at least 8.0 and can prove financial need. That combination keeps the pool small, but meeting the minimum does not guarantee an award. If you clearly fit all the criteria, submit a well-evidenced financial statement and apply early, your prospects are reasonable.
