About this scholarship
CAA Professional-Development Fellowships
You will receive a unrestricted grant of 10,000 USD (about 9,200 EUR), which is paid as a one-off sum and which you can spend as you wish, for example on job-hunting or on materials for your studio work. You will also receive a free one-year membership of the College Art Association (CAA) and free registration for the next CAA Annual Conference. The CAA, a US professional association for the arts, awards two grants each year (one-off career development grants): one in art history and one in the visual arts. Should the jury award you an ‘Honourable Mention’ instead, you will still receive the free membership and free registration for the conference, but no cash.
Who can apply
- Your stage: You are in the final year of your degree or have recently graduated. For a degree in Art History, this means a PhD. For a degree in Fine Art, this means an MFA or another final academic qualification (the highest academic qualification in your field).
- Field: Art History covers art, architecture and design historians, curators and critics. Visual Arts covers studio artists, designers and craftspeople.
- Nationality: You are a US citizen or have permanent resident status in the United States.
- Financial need: You can show that you need the money.
- Membership: You have a CAA member ID or a non-member ID that you set up via a free account.
- Encouraged to apply: The CAA expressly welcomes applications from people from groups that have been under-represented in the past.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the CAA conference platform by 1 November. You must submit a CV, two letters of recommendation and either a personal statement outlining your dissertation proposal and a completed chapter (Art History) or an artist’s statement with samples of your work (Fine Art). A panel will make its decision on the basis of these documents. There will be no interview.
