Constitutional Court of Spain - Constitutional Court Library Scholarship

Benefit

You will receive 1,260 EUR gross per month for 12 months. The Court may extend this period by up to a further 12 months, provided that the training programme and the budget allow for this. You will undertake training in library and documentation studies at the library of the Spanish Constitutional Court (Tribunal Constitucional) in Madrid. You will research and catalogue the library’s books and journals, working approximately 30 hours per week, whilst being entitled to 20 days’ holiday per calendar year. This is a training placement, not a job. There is no employment or civil service relationship, but the Court will cover your social security and accident insurance.

Eligibility

• Degree: You hold a degree, a Master’s or a PhD in Library and Information Science (biblioteconomía y documentación) or an equivalent qualification, including a degree obtained abroad.
• When you graduated: You completed this degree in January 1 2021.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Health: You are able to carry out the practical tasks, provided there are no health-related restrictions that would prevent you from doing so. If you have a disability of 33% or more, you will be provided with reasonable adjustments.
• No prior award: You have not yet received a scholarship from the Federal Constitutional Court. A previous scholarship which, for reasons beyond your control, lasted for less than six months does not count.
• Bonus points: You will have a better chance of success if you have a legal background or an interest in constitutional law, professional experience in librarianship, IT skills and proficiency in foreign languages, particularly German, English or French.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Constitutional Court’s electronic register. The deadline for applications is approximately one month after the vacancy is published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), i.e. around 10 May. Applicants with the best results in the document screening will be invited to an interview. The applicant with the highest overall score will be awarded the post.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one library scholarship is awarded per round, so a single winner is selected from among all applicants. Whilst the specific degree programme and graduation date narrow down the pool of applicants, there is still genuine competition as there is only one place available. You will improve your chances if you match the profile and can demonstrate relevant experience, language skills and an interest in constitutional law. A well-reasoned application and a convincing interview are key.
