"Equitat" Grants (Beca Equitat)

In Catalonia, you are entitled to a discount of discount of up to 80% on your public university tuition fees for one academic year, which can amount to as much as approximately 1,960 EUR, depending on what you would otherwise have to pay. The amount of the discount depends on your family’s income bracket and your degree programme. For Bachelor’s students (Grado), it amounts to 80% in the lowest income bracket and 70% in the next highest bracket. For eligible Master’s students, it amounts to 25% and 20% respectively. The grant is administered by AGAUR, the Catalan Government’s higher education grants agency. Please note that this is a fee reduction and not a cash payment. It does not cover administrative fees, insurance or repeated modules. Furthermore, you cannot combine it with the Spanish government’s ‘Beca General’ grant: if you receive this, the ‘Equitat’ grant will not apply; however, if the government grant is refused, the ‘Equitat’ grant may take its place.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at a public university in Catalonia, at the UOC online university, or at one of the three participating affiliated institutions.
• Level: You are studying as part of an official Bachelor’s degree programme or a Master’s degree programme leading to eligibility for a habilitation.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: You are a national of Spain or another EU country. Non-EU citizens are eligible to participate provided they meet the entry requirements.
• Family income: Your household income falls within the specified limits, which increase in line with the number of family members. There are also upper limits on family assets, investment income and turnover from self-employment.
• No second degree: You do not yet hold an equivalent or higher official qualification from a publicly funded institution.
• Grades: No academic performance requirement.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the ‘Tràmits gencat’ portal or the AGAUR website, using a digital ID such as idCat Mòbil. For the year 2026–2027, the application window runs from 15. September to 30 October at 2026, 14:00 (Barcelona local time). You can also use the same form to obtain your certificate confirming your family’s income bracket.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested fee, but rather an income-based fee reduction. If your family income falls within the published income brackets and you are studying at an eligible public Catalan university, you are entitled to it. There are no minimum grades you need to achieve, nor is there a fixed number of places available. The main reason for exclusion is exceeding the income or asset limits; it is therefore crucial that you check your income bracket and apply within the specified timeframe.
