Fondation Carnot scholarship for University of Burgundy

You will receive 7,000 EUR for one year to fund a research placement abroad. The funding is intended either to support a postdoctoral placement (research work following your PhD) or a research project lasting at least one year in a laboratory abroad. You will also become part of a group of mentors who will advise you on your career, a LinkedIn network to help you stay in touch, and an annual meeting where scholarship holders share their experiences. The scholarship is awarded by the Fondation Carnot, which has been supporting French graduates of science degree programmes since 1997.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are French.
• University: You studied natural sciences at the University of Burgundy in Dijon.
• Field of study: You work in the field of physics or chemistry, in a laboratory specialising in physics, solid-state chemistry or molecular chemistry.
• Study phase: You have already completed your PhD or are in the second year of your PhD programme.
• Placement abroad: A foreign laboratory has accepted your research project for at least one year.

How to apply

Former Carnot scholarship holders who are still working at the University of Burgundy carry out an initial shortlisting of applicants. If you pass this stage, you will have an interview with the Fondation Carnot selection panel in September. The selection panel decides who will receive a grant. Please contact the Foundation via the Physics and Chemistry departments at the University of Burgundy.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very strict. You must be a French national, hold a degree in a science subject from a specific university, be working in the field of physics or chemistry, and already have a research placement abroad lined up. The pool of eligible applicants is tiny, but so is the competition. If you clearly meet all these requirements and your project abroad has been confirmed, your chances are good.
