What the AFU Research Grant gives you

You will receive funding for a research project on the urinary and genital systems, whether in the field of basic research or clinical research. The following applies: no fixed amount You must apply for the amount required for your project, which must be reasonable and justified. The committee may award a lower amount than that requested, and the total annual sum must fall within the AFU’s overall budget. Projects of any duration and any cost may be funded, and funding may be renewed. The funding is provided by the Association Française d’Urologie (AFU), France’s national urological society.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a urologist and a member of the AFU, a member of the AFUF (the French Association for Women’s Urology), or a medical researcher who is not a member of the AFU.
• Level: You are a qualified doctor or researcher, not a student.
• Research topic: Your project must relate directly to the urinary and genital systems.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Where the research happens: Your project is supported by a host department or laboratory. If you are conducting clinical research in France, you will also need authorisation from the French ethics and data protection authorities (CPP and CNIL).

How to apply

Please submit your complete application by email (file size up to 2 MB). There are two rounds per year, with deadlines on 1 March and 30 June. Two assessors evaluate each anonymised application, a panel draws up a ranking list, and the AFU Executive Board makes the final decision. You may be invited to an interview beforehand.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed exclusively at doctors and researchers in the field of urology who are supported by a host department and can submit a well-founded budget proposal. This ensures that the pool of applicants remains small and highly specialised. If you clearly fit this profile and submit a convincing, detailed project proposal, your chances are good. However, the size of the annual budget continues to limit the number of grants awarded.
