What the WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarship offers

You will receive a one-off grant of up to CHF 10,000 to fund a nature conservation course or an academic year. This covers course and tuition fees, books, as well as travel and living costs during your studies. The grant applies to a course duration of one year or less. If you are undertaking a multi-year course of study, only the final year is eligible for funding. WWF International established the fund in 1991 to train the next generation of conservation leaders in developing and emerging economies.

Who can apply

• Where you are from: You are a national of a country in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America/the Caribbean, Eastern Europe or the Middle East. WWF staff and people working for WWF partner organisations are also eligible to apply.
• Field of study: Your degree programme must be directly related to nature conservation. This includes ecology, wildlife management and the natural sciences, as well as related fields such as environmental law, journalism and education.
• Career stage: Mid-career candidates who are already working in nature conservation or a related field will be given priority.
• Admission: You have already been admitted to the degree programme and can provide written confirmation from the institution.
• Other funding: You can provide evidence that you have additional financial resources. This grant is intended to supplement your funds and does not constitute full funding.
• Commitment: You agree to return to your home region once you have completed your studies and to continue your nature conservation work there.
• Preference: Women and people working for non-governmental organisations or community-based organisations are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will also be given to applicants who provide training in their own country or region.

How to apply

When the scholarship was last advertised, you applied via your local WWF office using a standardised form in English. That office reviewed the applications and put forward candidates; a WWF selection committee then made the final decision. Please note: WWF International has temporarily suspended this scholarship. No new applications are being accepted, and no date has been announced for when the call for applications will resume.
