About this scholarship
ASEM-DUO Fellowship for students
You get a grant of around 1,200 EUR for an exchange of up to 4 months at a partner university in Asia. The exact amount and length depend on which country sub-programme you join. You can spend the money freely on tuition, living costs or travel. The programme runs under the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), a forum linking Asian and European countries. It funds two-way exchange: for every student travelling from Asia to Europe, one European student goes the other way between the same two universities.
Who can apply
- Level: You are on a Bachelor’s degree programme.
- Where you study now: You are enrolled at a European university, such as the University of Porto. You will remain enrolled from the time of application until the end of the exchange.
- Where you go: You will spend a semester at a partner university in an Asian ASEM country. Your home university must already have signed a cooperation agreement with this partner university.
- Nationality: You are a national of one of the 30 European ASEM countries, including Portugal.
- Field of study: Almost any subject is suitable, provided there is a cooperation agreement between the two universities.
- Credits: You must transfer at least 10 credits (20 ECTS) per semester from your exchange programme. Language or sports courses do not count towards this.
- Timing: At the time of applying, you have not yet started the exchange.
- Other funding: You will not receive any other government or university funding at the same time. This rule applies to DUO-Korea and varies depending on the sub-programme.
How to apply
You do not apply individually. The Asian partner university submits a joint application on behalf of both students in the pair. Please contact your university’s International Relations Office to be matched with a partner. You can apply for DUO-Korea 2026 until 20 May; the results will be announced in June.
