About this scholarship
Cathy Wills Sculpture Scholarship
You get a one-off award of about 16,800 EUR (£14,600) to help you through a master's in fine art focused on sculpture at University of the Arts London (UAL). If you pay UK ("Home") fees, the money goes towards your tuition and, where needed, your living costs. If you pay international fees, it covers tuition only. One student is funded each year. The scholarship was set up in 2007 by donor Cathy Wills. It is the only UAL award made specifically for three-dimensional work.
Who can apply
- Course: You have a place on one of three full-time master's courses starting in September: MA Fine Art: Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts, MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, or MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins.
- Your work: Your art practice centres on making three-dimensional objects (sculpture).
- Financial need: You cannot fully fund the studies yourself and can show this.
- Where you're from: Open to both UK (Home) and international students.
How to apply
You apply through an online form on the UAL website. You give details of your financial situation and your sculpture practice. A panel of UAL department heads and a well-known working artist picks the winner, judging both financial need and the quality of your work. Deadlines fall in the autumn before the September start. Check the current cycle for the exact date.
How realistic are your chances?
Only one award is given each year, and only sculpture-focused students on the three named UAL courses can apply. The eligible group is small, but that single place still makes it competitive. If your practice is clearly three-dimensional, you hold a place on one of the named courses and you can document real financial need, you are a strong match. A convincing, distinctive body of work tips the balance.
