About this scholarship

Chinese Government (CSC) and CLEC scholarships

You get fully funded study in China. Your tuition is covered, plus accommodation, a monthly living allowance and full health insurance. The awards come from China's Ministry of Education. There are two tracks.

The CSC scholarship covers any level from undergraduate to postdoctoral research. For 2026-2027 there are 10 new places for applicants based in Spain, handled through the Spanish agency SEPIE.

The CLEC scholarship is for people who want to teach Chinese. It covers a bachelor's, master's or doctorate in Chinese teaching, or shorter language courses from 4 weeks up to a full year. The living allowance runs from about 300 EUR to 420 EUR per month (2,500 to 3,500 yuan) depending on your level. On top you get housing support of about 85 to 120 EUR per month (700 to 1,000 yuan). The 4-week short courses do not include a living allowance.

Who can apply

  • Where you go: You study at a university in China.
  • Degree level: CSC covers bachelor's, master's, doctorate and general or senior study programmes. CLEC covers degrees in Chinese teaching and shorter language courses.
  • Nationality (CSC): You are a Spanish citizen, or an EU citizen who can prove residence in Spain.
  • Nationality (CLEC): Any nationality can apply, except Chinese citizens.
  • Age: Limits depend on the track and level. CSC ranges from under 25 for a bachelor's up to 45 or 50 for senior scholars. For CLEC you must be 16 to 35 (up to 45 if you already teach Chinese), and usually under 25 for the bachelor's.
  • Language: You need a Chinese proficiency (HSK) level matching your programme, from HSK3 for entry courses up to HSK6 or 7 for a doctorate. Programmes taught in another language may accept IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge instead.
  • Health and record: You are in good physical and mental health and have a clean criminal record.
  • Prior awards (CLEC): You have not held a one-year or one-semester CLEC scholarship of the same type in the last 3 years.

How to apply

For the CSC track you apply online at campuschina.org and register with SEPIE. The deadline for 2026-2027 is 30 December 2025. The Bachelor Program CSCA exam has a later deadline of 9 February 2026. For the CLEC track you apply online at chinese.cn, with deadlines set by your start date, for example 15 May 2026 for a September 2026 start. Both tracks need a pre-admission document from a Chinese university.

How realistic are your chances?

The CSC track is tightly limited, with only 10 new places for Spain, so it is competitive. You need a strong academic record and a clear study plan. The CLEC track is narrower in focus but has many programme types and start dates. If you genuinely want to teach Chinese and have the required HSK level, your prospects are solid. In both cases the language requirement filters out most casual applicants, and getting your Chinese university pre-admission early is the real bottleneck.
