About this award / prize

What you get

You win a cash prize plus a diploma for a scientific paper in veterinary science. The Royal Spanish Academy of Veterinary Sciences (RACVE) runs seven separate prizes in the 2026 round, each on its own theme. Most prizes are worth around 2,000 EUR. The biggest pays 3,500 EUR for a freely chosen veterinary topic, and the open-theme Madrid College prize pays 3,000 EUR. The others cover animal feed, nutrition and sustainability, animal nutrition, the history of veterinary science, and digital technology on farms, paying 1,500 to 2,500 EUR. Two of the nutrition prizes (2,000 EUR each) also publish your paper in the magazine Mundo CESFAC. Winners present a 5-minute summary of their work at a public RACVE session in January 2027.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: The competition is open to individuals and teams. You do not need to be enrolled at a university or hold a degree.
  • Nationality: Authors of any nationality, both Spanish and non-Spanish, are eligible to apply.
  • Your work: You must submit an unpublished research or review article written specifically for this call for proposals. It must not have been submitted to any other competition.
  • Language: You are writing the essay in Spanish.
  • Length: to 10,000 words for an experimental paper, up to 20,000 for a review article, and no more than 10 MB.
  • One entry: Only one entry may be submitted per round in each prize category. No individual or team may win more than one prize in the same cycle.
  • Madrid College prize: In this category only, at least one author must be a vet.
  • Anonymity: Your name must not appear anywhere in the submitted entry.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the RACVE Prize portal. Select the prize category, enter a short code word (your ‘Lema’, max. 3 words) and a mobile phone number, and then upload your entry as a PDF. The first author must then send an email to RACVE, stating the code word in the subject line and the authors’ names in the body of the email. The deadline is 30 October 2026, before 24:00. The results will be announced before 10 December 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

These are academic competitions. The judging panel assesses the quality of a complete research paper; therefore, this is not a scholarship open to everyone. It is aimed at a small group of serious authors who are prepared to write a paper in Spanish that is ready for publication. As there are seven separate prizes covering different topics, you’ll improve your chances by selecting the category that best suits your work. A compelling, genuinely original piece of work that fits the theme of a particular prize stands a real chance of success.
