Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) - GIST Intern Program

Benefit

You spend 8 weeks in summer working inside a research lab at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. GIST covers your accommodation in a campus dormitory for the full programme and reimburses 50% of your return airfare (up to roughly EUR 680, equivalent to 1,000,000 KRW). You also receive a monthly stipend of approximately EUR 312; the exact figure is confirmed after selection. Alongside lab work, you join Korean language and culture classes, special lectures, and cultural excursions. At the end you receive a completion certificate, and your work is published as a research poster. Airfare reimbursement and the certificate are issued only if you submit your research work.

Labs span engineering and natural sciences: electrical engineering, computer science, AI, semiconductor engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, materials science, mechanical and robotics engineering, biomedical science, and earth and environmental engineering.

Eligibility

• Study level: You are in the final year of a bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in a master's programme.
• Field of study: You study engineering, natural sciences, computing or a related STEM subject matching one of the available labs.
• Grades: Your GPA is 3.0 or above on a 4.5-point scale, or the equivalent at your institution.
• English: You have a TOEFL iBT score of at least 80 or an equivalent score on another recognised test. If your university teaches in English, or if you are from an English-speaking country, a letter confirming that is enough.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Apply online through the GIST application portal before 27 February. Name at least two preferred research labs and upload a research plan; applications missing either are rejected. Some labs may invite you to an interview as part of their selection.
