About this scholarship
Northumbria UK International Scholarship
You get a tuition-fee discount of up to about EUR 8,300 (up to £7,000) spread across your degree at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. In your first year you get about EUR 3,500 (£3,000) off your fees. In each later year you get about EUR 2,300 (£2,000) off. This applies whether you start in the first year (Level 4) or join in the second or final year (Level 5 or Level 6). The award reduces what you pay; it is not cash in your pocket.
Who can apply
- Fee status: You count as an international student with "Overseas" fee status. This depends on your residency and immigration situation, not your nationality.
- Where you study now: You currently study at a UK institution other than Northumbria. A UK qualification studied abroad does not count.
- Qualification: You are on a Level 3 International Foundation Programme, Foundation Year or UK A-Level equivalent (such as A-Levels, BTEC or Access), a Level 4 International Year One programme, or a Level 5 HND or Foundation Degree.
- You pay your own way: You fund yourself. If an employer, charity or trust sponsors you, you cannot get this.
- Course: You are accepted onto a full-time undergraduate course at the Newcastle upon Tyne campus (not the London campus) and meet all its entry requirements.
- Not a current or transferring student: You are not already a Northumbria student, and you are not moving from a partner institute that already agreed reduced fees.
How to apply
There is no separate application. The admissions team adds the discount automatically once they confirm you are eligible. They have the final say on whether a Level 3 qualification counts as equivalent.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competitive award with a limited number of places. It is a set discount for everyone who fits the rules. If you already study in the UK on an eligible course, hold Overseas fee status, fund yourself and enrol full-time at the Newcastle campus, you get it automatically. The main things that rule people out are a detail such as sponsorship, the wrong qualification, or a qualification studied outside the UK.
