Northumbria International Scholarship (laenderspezifische Variante fuer Afrika)

What you get

You get a tuition fee discount of about EUR 7,000 (£6,000) in your first year at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. You also get about EUR 2,300 (£2,000) in each later year, up to a total of about EUR 11,600 (£10,000) across your degree. It is a reduction on your fees, not a cash payment. Northumbria University offers it to help students from Nigeria who pay for their own studies. Students from other African countries such as Ghana, Kenya and Morocco can apply for the broader International Scholarship instead. That version gives about EUR 3,500 (£3,000) in the first year and about EUR 2,300 (£2,000) in later years.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are accepted onto a full-time undergraduate course at Northumbria's Newcastle upon Tyne campus, starting September 2025.
• Home country: You are from Nigeria for the higher-value version. Students from other African countries get the standard International Scholarship.
• Fee status: You are an international student paying the "Overseas" fee rate.
• Self-funded: You pay for your own studies and have no sponsor covering your fees.
• Field of study: Any subject is fine, except courses run with the i2i International Soccer Academy and placement or study-abroad years.
• Course requirements: You meet the normal entry requirements for your chosen course.

How to apply

There is no separate application. If you meet the conditions and are accepted onto a qualifying course, the discount comes off your tuition fees automatically. If you defer your place, you lose the offer.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award. It is a fixed discount that everyone who fits the criteria receives, so there is no selection panel to convince. If you are a self-funded undergraduate from Nigeria (or another listed African country) accepted onto a full-time course at the Newcastle campus, you get it. The main things that can rule you out are having a sponsor or picking an excluded course.
