MILYON Bourses d'excellence (Excellence Scholarships for Master in Mathematics and Computer Science)

MILYON excellence scholarship

You get 1,000 EUR net per month for 10 months, which adds up to 10,000 EUR per academic year. The money supports you while you study for a Master in mathematics or fundamental computer science in the Lyon Saint-Etienne area. It is awarded by the MILYON research lab together with the Graduate+ programme, a network of several universities in Lyon that includes ENS de Lyon and Universite Claude Bernard Lyon 1.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are applying for a Master (first or second year, M1 or M2) in one of the eligible programmes.
• Field of study: Only mathematics and fundamental computer science count. Eligible programmes include Advanced Mathematics and Computer Science at ENS de Lyon, Maths in Action, Mathematiques Generales and Mathematiques Appliquees et Statistiques. Some are taught in English, others in French.
• Where you study: You enrol at a university in Lyon or Saint-Etienne within the MathInfI programme.
• Nationality and residence: You are mainly eligible if you are an international student, new to a French university, and living outside France when you apply. A second French passport is fine. The very best French students may also apply.
• Merit: You have an excellent academic record, relevant research internships or technical skills, and a clear career plan that fits the programme.

How to apply

You apply online through the ENS de Lyon platform. The current round opens on 14 November 2025 and closes on 23 January 2026. Selection is based only on your written application, with no interview, and results come in late February or early March. Applying for the scholarship and applying to the Master programme itself, for example through Campus France, are two separate steps. You need both.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is narrow: only a handful of maths and computer science Masters in Lyon qualify, and priority goes to international students arriving from abroad. So the applicant pool is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly fit one of the eligible programmes and can show a strong academic and research record, your prospects are good. Since the decision rests entirely on your written application, strong evidence matters most.
