DYCLAM+ (Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree — Dynamics of Cultural Landscape, Heritage, Memory and conflictualities)

What DYCLAM+ gives you

DYCLAM+ is a two-year international master's degree (120 ECTS) with the Erasmus Mundus label, coordinated by the University Jean Monnet in Saint-Etienne, France. You study across four countries: France, Portugal, Romania and Italy. The degree trains you to protect, manage and digitally present cultural heritage and cultural landscapes, with a focus on the geopolitics and conflicts around heritage (war, ideology, over-tourism). Up to 17 students per intake receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. It covers the full tuition and pays a living allowance of 1,000 EUR per month for 24 months. On top you get a yearly travel grant of 1,000 to 3,000 EUR depending on distance and where you live, a one-off 1,000 EUR settling-in payment if you come from outside Europe, and compulsory insurance.

Without the scholarship, the full two-year tuition is 8,000 EUR for students from Europe or partner countries and 17,000 EUR for students from other countries. Self-payers can get a 50% reduction, and the UJM Foundation scholarship of 8,000 EUR may also be available.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS. With at least 150 ECTS you may be admitted conditionally.
• Field of study: Open to a wide range of subjects, including humanities, history, archaeology, architecture, engineering, design, art, planning, law, political and natural sciences, tourism and landscape architecture.
• Nationality: Anyone can apply, from Europe or elsewhere.
• French: You need a certified C1 French certificate (DALF or TCF). Native speakers are exempt.
• English: You need a certified B2 English certificate (IELTS 6, TOEFL ITP 550, TOEFL iBT 90 or TOEIC 650). Native speakers are exempt.
• No prior EU master grant: You must not have already held an Erasmus Mundus (EMJMD/EMMC/EMJD) scholarship.

How to apply

You send your application as a single PDF by email to the programme office. A panel scores your file: academic record 40%, motivation letter 35%, work experience and past study or work abroad 15%, references and extra languages 10%. A video interview may be held to check your French. The top scorers are offered the Erasmus Mundus scholarship, and the next tier is admitted without a grant.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a demanding, narrowly cut degree: only about 30 places go to roughly 200 applicants each year, and the scholarship goes to at most 17 of them. The hard filters, especially C1 French plus B2 English on top of a relevant bachelor's, thin the field. So a well-matched applicant with strong grades and a sharp motivation letter has a real shot. Note that the programme was not re-opened for 2025/2026, so check whether a new intake is being offered before you prepare a file.
