About this scholarship

Bourse Mermoz (Hauts-de-France region)

You get up to 77.40 EUR per week (about 335 EUR per month) for a stay abroad during your studies. The money is paid as a weekly rate times the number of weeks you are away, with a minimum of 150 EUR for the whole stay. It funds three kinds of stays: a work placement, a study semester at a university abroad, or a research stay in a foreign lab. Stays run from 2 to 26 weeks depending on your type of study.

The amount depends on your family's income. You get the full rate if your family quotient (taxable income divided by household parts) is between 0 and 30,000 EUR. Above 30,000 EUR there is no funding. If you have a disability, you get a 25% bonus. If you hold a CROUS grant (French means-tested student aid), you also get a travel lump sum of 300 EUR, or 400 EUR with a disability. The money comes from the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. You can combine it with Erasmus+ and a CROUS grant.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at a state-recognised partner higher education institution in the Hauts-de-France region.
  • Level: For placements, two years after the baccalauréat up to doctoral level (Bac+2 to Bac+8), including BTS and higher apprenticeship students. For a study semester, Bac+2 to Bac+5. For a research stay, doctoral level (Bac+6 to Bac+8).
  • Where you go: Any country abroad, except French overseas territories, Monaco and Andorra. You cannot go to a country of your own nationality. You must actually live in the destination country during the stay.
  • Field of study: All subjects, including health and social care training.
  • Residence: If you are a foreign student, you must have lived in France for at least two years.
  • Income: Your family quotient (taxable income divided by household parts) must be below 30,000 EUR.
  • Not eligible: You cannot apply if you are on a gap year, in professional training funding, in discontinued study, or already hold another region's mobility grant. You can receive Mermoz only once, except for research stays.

How to apply

First, present your project to your institution's international office. They pre-select it on the regional platform, and without their validation you get nothing. Then register your application on the official platform at aides.hautsdefrance.fr before the end of your stay and attach your supporting documents. The region then does the final check.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is limited by region: you must study at a partner institution in Hauts-de-France and go abroad, which keeps the eligible group small and local. If you clearly fit those conditions, your institution backs your project, and your family income is below the 30,000 EUR threshold, your prospects are good. The region runs a multi-million-euro budget for this, so funding is not the bottleneck. Your institution's validation is.
