Eurolife Mobility and Knowledge Exchange Grant

You get a lump sum of 2,000 EUR for a short research stay at another medical university in the Eurolife network. It covers your travel, accommodation and living costs while you are there. The stay lasts at least two weeks (10 working days) and must take place between February and December of the funding year. Eurolife is a network of nine European medical universities. Each round funds 10 grants. The money is paid to your home university, and anything you do not spend must be returned.

Who can apply

• Career stage: You are in the final years of your PhD, or you finished your PhD no more than 8 years ago (counted from the application deadline). Postdoc mothers get 18 extra months per child.
• Also eligible: You can apply as a senior technician if you do essential analytical work for your research group.
• Where you work or study: You must be enrolled or employed at a Eurolife member university, both when you apply and during the exchange. These are in Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh, Göttingen, Innsbruck, Leiden, Stockholm (Karolinska), Strasbourg and Budapest (Semmelweis).
• Field: Your exchange must focus on research, innovation or knowledge transfer in biomedicine or medicine.
• Host: You need an invitation from a research group at another Eurolife university. It must name your host and explain how they will support your project.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You send your application form and annexes by email as a PDF to the Eurolife contact person at your home university. The annexes include a one-page project proposal, your CV and publication list, your PhD certificate if you are a postdoc, and the host's invitation letter. The call runs once a year, with the deadline usually at the end of November. Each university first ranks its own candidates, then a network committee decides the final list. You hear the result by email in December.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly: only researchers already at the handful of Eurolife member universities, working in biomedicine or medicine, can apply, so the pool is small. The top-ranked candidate from each university is accepted automatically, so a strong application ranked first at your own institution has a direct route in. A clear proposal and a solid invitation from your host group are what set you apart.
