Plan Propio Integral de Docencia (PPID) — Ayudas estudiantes (Acciones 321, 323)

What you get

The University of Malaga (UMA) offers two funding lines for its doctoral students under its own teaching plan (PPID). Each is paid as a one-off grant:

• International Doctorate (Action 321): 3,000 EUR towards a research stay abroad of at least three months. This funds the trip you need to earn the "International Doctorate" mention on your PhD. Around 30 grants are awarded per call, funded by Banco Santander and the university (90,000 EUR total for 2026).
• Industrial Doctorate (Action 323): 1,500 EUR if you write your thesis together with a company or public body. The money covers PhD tuition fees, conference and course fees, short research stays elsewhere, and other documented thesis costs. Funded by Fundacion Bancaria Unicaja (30,000 EUR for the current call).

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled in a doctoral programme at the University of Malaga. For the Industrial line, you may also have finished your PhD at UMA within the last three months.
• Field of study: Any doctoral subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. Non-EU citizens need a valid residence permit.
• For Action 321 (stay abroad): The stay lasts at least three months, with no single block under 30 days. It must take place outside Spain and outside your own country of residence. You cannot receive other funding for the same costs. Stays in countries outside the Erasmus+ traineeship programme are given priority.
• For Action 323 (industrial): You have a work or commercial contract of at least one year with a company or public body (not a university). There must be a cooperation agreement between UMA and that organisation, and your thesis must be directly linked to its industrial project.

How to apply

You apply online through the doctoral school's request system at gp.uma.es/doctorado. For Action 321 you must also register on the Santander Open Academy platform and apply via Santander. Action 321 is chosen competitively, scoring the ranking of your host institution, the scientific interest of your project and your CV. Action 323 is awarded in order of arrival until the budget runs out.

How realistic are your chances?

Both lines are narrow: you must already be a UMA doctoral student, so the pool is small. For the industrial grant, awards go in the order applications arrive until the money is gone, so applying early is what counts. For the international stay, selection is competitive and favours strong host institutions and projects, but with about 30 grants per call a well-prepared applicant has solid prospects.
