What Erasmus+ ICM (KA171) offers

If you study or train abroad through this programme, you get a monthly grant of 700 to 900 EUR plus a travel allowance based on distance. The travel money ranges from about 28 EUR for short trips up to 1,735 EUR for journeys over 8,000 km. The exact monthly rate depends on where you go: 900 EUR for higher-cost countries like Germany, France or the Netherlands, 850 EUR for Spain, Portugal or Greece, 800 EUR for Poland, Romania or Turkey, and 700 EUR for partner countries outside the EU programme area. Short or blended stays (a mix of online and in-person study) are paid as a daily rate of 148 to 190 EUR. A study or traineeship abroad lasts 60 days to 12 months; short and blended formats run 5 to 30 days. Free online language support is included. If you have a disability or face social or financial barriers, you can claim extra inclusion funding. This is the international arm of Erasmus+, funded by the European Union and run through your university.

Who can apply

• Level of study: All cycles can apply: short-cycle, bachelor, master and doctoral students. Recent graduates can also go for a traineeship.
• Field of study: All subjects.
• Where you go: You can study or train in one of 33 European programme countries, or in a partner country across 12 world regions, from the Western Balkans and Latin America to Asia, Africa and North America.
• One catch on some destinations: For certain partner countries, bachelor and master students cannot be sent; only doctoral students and staff can go there. Your university knows which destinations this affects.
• Home university: Your university must have an exchange agreement with the partner institution abroad. You apply through your own university, not to the EU directly.
• Grades and selection: Each university sets its own selection criteria, which usually include your academic results.

How to apply

Apply at your own university's international office. It picks who gets a place using the criteria it agreed with each partner institution. Your university sets the deadlines, so ask there well before you want to go.

How realistic are your chances?

Your prospects depend heavily on your own university. It must already hold an agreement with the country you want to reach, and the number of funded places per destination is limited. If your subject and target country match an existing partnership and you have solid grades, your chances are good. Apply early and ask the international office which destinations have open slots this round.
