About this scholarship
Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES) for BA programmes
You get up to 50% off your tuition fees each semester, applied directly to your bill. Tuition is 7,500 EUR per semester, so the award cuts up to 3,750 EUR off each one. It can run for up to 6 semesters, which covers the full 3-year bachelor. It is renewed each semester as long as you keep up your grades. The scholarship comes from the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) in Brussels, Belgium. The school is run jointly by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel's Institute for European Studies and Vesalius College. You cannot combine it with other BSoG discounts, such as the 20% family or alumni reduction.
Who can apply
- Programme: You enrol in one of three BSoG bachelor degrees: Global Business and Entrepreneurship, International Affairs, or International and European Law.
- Study phase: You are a first-year student starting full time. If you have already attended a university and want to transfer, you cannot apply.
- Admission first: You are already accepted into a BSoG bachelor programme before you apply for the scholarship.
- Grades: You have an excellent school-leaving record. The minimum depends on your diploma, for example 37 points in the International Baccalaureate, 1.8 in the German Abitur, AAB at British A-levels, 16 in the French Baccalauréat, or 80% for a Belgian diploma. Some diplomas also need an English test, such as TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.
- Beyond grades: You can show extra-curricular achievements and leadership, and you provide one letter of recommendation from your school.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities and places of residence.
- Keeping it: To renew each semester, you keep a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0 (your grade average on a 4-point scale).
How to apply
First get admitted to a BSoG bachelor programme, then submit the separate AES application form. The deadline is 1 March for a Fall (August) start and 1 October for a Spring (January) start. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee an award, as funding is limited.
