Fulbright-Radboud Scholarship

You receive 1,750 EUR per month to study for a Master's degree at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands. A one-year programme is funded for 11 months (September to July), so 11 payments in total. A two-year programme gets 12 monthly payments in the first year and up to 11 more in the second year, but only if you pass all your first-year exams. On top of the monthly money you get a one-off travel allowance of 1,000 EUR for your flight, reimbursement of your residence permit (about 243 EUR), health and accident insurance, a 24/7 mental-health support line, and free entry to over 400 Dutch museums. You also join Fulbright networking events. After your grant ends, you get 12 months of easier access to US federal-government jobs. The award is run jointly by the Fulbright Commission in the Netherlands and Radboud University. For 2027-2028, only 1 scholarship may be given. Note that tuition fees are not covered and vary by programme.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a US citizen. If you also hold Dutch or another EU nationality, you cannot apply.
• Where you go: You study at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
• Degree: You are admitted to an English-taught Master's or Research Master's at Radboud. Erasmus Mundus, joint-degree and double-degree Masters do not count.
• Field of study: Open to a wide range of subjects, including science, philosophy, theology and religious studies, arts, management, law, social sciences and medical sciences.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• Engagement: You take part in activities outside your studies and can explain clearly why you want to study at Radboud.
• Timing: You do not already live in the Netherlands when you apply.
• Language: Dutch is not required, but learning some is welcome.

How to apply

You apply in two separate steps. First, apply for admission to a Radboud Master's through the university's OSIRIS system by 1 January; that portal opens on 1 October. Second, submit your Fulbright application at us.fulbrightonline.org and select "Radboud University" as the award. The deadline for the 2027-2028 cycle is 6 October 2026 at 17:00 Eastern Time. You need your Radboud admission letter during the selection process.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly: only US citizens heading specifically to Radboud University qualify, and just 1 scholarship may be given for 2027-2028. That single place makes it genuinely competitive among strong candidates. If you have an excellent record, a clear reason for choosing Radboud and Nijmegen, and you complete both applications on time, you have a real shot. Plan for tuition costs, since the grant does not cover them.
